Steps: |
| -Combine flour, salt, baking powder and first addition of sugar. Make a well in center of mixture. |
| -Combine egg, milk and butter, stirring well; stir in orange zest, juice, apples and vanilla. |
| -Add wet ingredients to flour mixture, stirring just until combined. |
| -Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a large Dutch oven; heat to 350 degrees. Mix 2 Tbl. of cinnamon and 1/2 cup of sugar, and reserve. |
| -Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls into hot oil; fry fritters in batches 1 1/2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. |
| -Remove with a slotted spoon and roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture. |
| -Cool finished fritters on paper towels. Continue until all batter has been used. |
