Steps: |
| -Preheat oven to 375 degrees. |
| -Combine first 6 ingredients (filling ingredients) in a large skillet. |
| -Stir in the sliced pears. |
| -Cook over medium heat, stirring gently, for around 5 minutes, or until the mixture is hot and bubbling. |
| -Remove mixture from heat and set aside. |
| -To make topping: |
| -Place flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, and baking soda into a mixing bowl. |
| -Beat mixture on low for about 30 seconds. |
| -Add in buttermilk and melted butter, then continue to mix on low for another 30 seconds until well blended. |
| -Pour your filling mixture (still hot) into an 8- or 9-inch baking pan. |
| -Top evenly with large spoonfuls of the flour mixture. |
| -Sprinkle top lightly with 1 tablespoon of sugar |
| -Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the pears are bubbly and the topping is golden brown. |
| -Let cool for 10 minutes, then serve warm (vanilla ice cream topping is optional) |
